There’s just something about ocean views, historic charm, and a couple madly in love that makes for the best wedding days! J & J flew in from Virginia with their closest friends and family to say “I do” at Cabrillo National Monument. Their day was a perfect mix of emotion, connection, and California coast magic that I dream of!
As a Southern California wedding and elopement photographer, I’ll never get over how special it feels to photograph celebrations like this one!

Getting Ready in Historic Point Loma
J started the morning in a stunning historic home in Point Loma—one of the oldest in the area, built before 1915! The upstairs bedroom was filled with dreamy natural light, perfect for getting ready and those quiet, emotional moments before the day really began.
She and her soon-to-be husband shared their first look in the backyard (yes, cue the tears!), and then we headed toward the coast for the ceremony.

Saying “I Do” at Cabrillo National Monument
The drive through the national cemetery and up to the monument is always breathtaking—and it set the tone for what was to come. The ceremony took place at the Event Bluff, the only permitted site for weddings at Cabrillo, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. With the Point Loma Lighthouse in the background and waves crashing below, it was an unforgettable spot to exchange vows!
Their ceremony was heartfelt, tear-filled, and full of joy. Family hugged, happy tears were flowing, and it honestly felt like time slowed down in the best way.

A Relaxed, Joyful Celebration
After their ceremony, everyone gathered back at the Airbnb for cake, champagne, and time together. It was the sweetest little reception—relaxed, full of laughter, and the kind of gathering that reminds you why intimate weddings are so special.
With a custom 4-hour elopement package, J & J had time to soak in every part of the day without feeling rushed. That slower pace really let the emotion shine through in their photos!

Thinking About a Cabrillo National Monument Wedding?
If you’re dreaming about eloping or planning a small ceremony at Cabrillo, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Permits are required—you can apply through the NPS website here. Plan ahead, since approvals can take time!
- The ceremony spot is on dirt and uneven ground, so tell your guests to wear comfy shoes.
- The park closes early, and the latest ceremony time allowed is 3:30pm. Winter elopements are great if you want that golden hour light!
- Weekdays in the off-season (fall to early spring) are best for avoiding crowds.
- It can get windy, so tied-back hair is your friend!
